How To Pray & How To Study The Bible (Hendrickson Christian Classics)

Product Description

“R. A. Torrey''s passion for making Christian theology a matter of daily life shows up in the host of "how to" books that he wrote. This volume brings together in one place the two most influential of Torrey''s practical guides. How to Pray sparked numerous revivals in the first decade of the twentieth century, and How to Study the Bible was a key text in spreading inductive Bible study techniques and opening up the riches of Scripture for ordinary Christians. What Torrey valued most was making the truth accessible and practical, enabling every Christian to know God personally and to take definite action in the service of Christ.”—Fred Sanders, Biola UniversityAs valuable as when they were first published a century ago, Torrey’s two disciple-making classics—both brimming with practical wisdom encourage believers to grow in the knowledge and love of God. About R. A. Torrey

Reuben Archer Torrey (1856--1928) is respected as one of the greatest evangelists of modern times. Several years after his graduation from Yale Divinity School, he was selected by D. L. Moody to become the first dean of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. Under his direction, Moody Institute became a pattern for Bible institutes around the world. Dr. Torrey spent the years of 1903-1905 in worldwide revival campaigns, winning thousands of souls to Jesus Christ. He continued worldwide crusades for the next fifteen years while he served as the dean of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and pastored the Church of the Open Door in that city. Torrey longed for more Christian workers to take an active part in bringing the message of salvation through Christ to a lost and dying world. His straightforward style of evangelism has shown thousands of Christian workers how to become effective soulwinners.
